All you patients out there in 115th Dreamland know that the doctors and nursemaids here at the asylum love the soulful sounds of the "King of Rock 'N Soul," Solomon Burke. A few weeks back we put together a post in honor of the release of Dylan's 33rd studio album, Together Through Life. If yer rock 'n roll stethoscopes missed it we compiled a list of our favorite Dylan covers, in which Solomon Burke's interpretation of "Maggie's Farm" came out on top. Patients, no lie, this is the definitive version of the tune.
All Hail King Solomon
Originally released on Dylan's Bringing It All Back Home in the Spring of 1965. If yer rock 'n roll stethoscopes are takin' notes... Solomon was the first artist to take on the song and officially record it for his 17th Atlantic single. In 1965, one year after being dubbed the "King of Rock and Soul," "Maggie's Farm" appeared as the B-side to the If You Need Me classic, "Tonight's The Night". Both ditties are make for one killer record brimming with hooks and hip-swaying sounds.
Give it a listen and let us know yer thoughts.
