Patients, free yer minds and stethoscopes because today the doctors and nursemaids here at the asylum are bringin’ the funk from the soulful sounds of Buddy Miles' 3rd album, Them Changes. (Side Doctor's Note: You could hide a collection of drum sticks and switchblades in that afro there). In 1970, the former Band of Gypsys drummer released an 8-track LP filled with blasts of electric church music and combustible funk. Them Changes lasted 74 weeks on the Billboard album chart, but, unfortunately, soon after the run became a long lost classic. Recently our rock 'n roll stethoscopes unearthed this funk 'n soul gem that sounds like it was recorded at Stax or the Muscle Shoals studio.
Patients, let's be frank: Them Changes is filled with a collection of stingin' originals and, potentially, better than the originals covers. On the classic opener "Them Changes", rock 'n wailer Buddy Miles delivers a driving sonic flashpoint, with a groove that will knock you offa the rails. And his takes on Gregg Allman's "Dreams" and Neil Young's "Down By The River" will make yer stethoscopes drop. No joke, dig. Make sure to check out the LP and let us know yer thoughts.
Should You DL? Of course, as your Doctor, I advise you to download your daily dosage of MP3s...
